What is a Learning Community?

A learning community is a group of people who share common interests and who are actively engaged in learning together from each other.

Learning Community

During the course of an undergraduate degree students spend a lot of time sitting in the classroom listening to lectures.

The learning community approach recognizes that students can learn a lot from each other by collaborating on projects that link classroom theory to practice.

Both academic and general staff contribute to learning communities and enjoy partnering with students on projects of mutual interest.

Learning community activities complement academic programs by exploring interdisciplinary themes, like sustainability, and by engaging students in the wider community.  Both residential and non-residential students are involved in learning communities and many activities are hosted by halls and colleges.  If you would like to meet people with similar interests or see what campus residential life is like, joining a learning community is for you!
